Where Does QQ Store Chat History on PC?

QQ files chat databases per account number, in Documents for classic builds and AppData for the newer NT architecture.

Last updated

QQ names its data folders after your account number, which makes them searchable even when the base path changes. Classic PC builds store everything under Tencent Files in Documents, one numbered folder per logged in account.

The rebuilt NT client moved house to AppData with SQLite databases instead of the old format. Both eras keep chat databases plus received files together, so the numbered folder remains the unit of backup. Close QQ before copying: the databases dislike readers mid write.

Where QQ stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Tencent Files\[your QQ]

Each numbered subfolder is one QQ account with Msg database files inside. NT architecture builds instead use %APPDATA%\Tencent\QQ\nt_qq\nt_data\[your QQ].

macOS
~/Library/Containers/com.tencent.qq/Data/Library/Application Support/QQ/[your QQ]

The trailing number is the QQ account. Quit QQ first, then copy the whole numbered folder including every msg database inside.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my exact chat folder?

Open Settings and look under File Management, which prints the live storage path. Searching the drive for your QQ number also surfaces the folder, since every account directory carries it as its name.

Why are there two completely different paths?

Classic builds read Msg2.0.db and Msg3.0.db from Documents, NT builds read SQLite from AppData. The formats differ, so cross version moves need the app's own migration rather than file copies.
