Where Does Resilio Sync Store Settings and Data?

Where Resilio Sync keeps its storage folder with settings, database and logs on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Last updated

Resilio Sync separates app state from synced files. The storage folder holds settings, the share database and logs. Your actual synced folders live wherever you created them and are not part of this path.

The exact root moves per OS and per install type. Package installs on Linux run as a service user with a system path. Desktop installs use your own profile. Check sync.conf when the folder is not where you expect. Stop the app before moving or copying the database, since open state files come out corrupt when grabbed live.

Where Resilio Sync stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Resilio Sync

Holds settings.dat, sync.dat and sync.log. Service installs use a Resilio Sync Service sibling or the LocalService profile instead.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Resilio Sync

Holds settings.dat, storage database and sync.log. Headless installs override it with storage_path in sync.conf.

Linux
/var/lib/resilio-sync

Package default when running as the rslsync service user. Per user installs instead use ~/.config/resilio-sync/storage. Check sync.conf for a custom storage_path.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move the Resilio Sync storage folder?

Stop Sync first, move the storage folder, then point storage_path in sync.conf at the new place and restart. Moving it while running corrupts the database. Keep a copy of the old folder until the new one proves healthy.

Where is the Resilio Sync log file?

Open sync.log inside the storage folder for your OS. Rotated copies sit beside it. Most startup failures name the bad path or port right in the first dozen lines, which beats reinstalling blindly.
