Where Does Rnote Store Notes and Settings?
Where Rnote keeps your .rnote documents versus its app settings on Linux, including the Flatpak config path.
Last updated
Rnote documents are plain files with the .rnote extension, stored wherever you save them. There is no central notebook folder to hunt down. If you cannot find a note, search the filesystem for .rnote.
App preferences are a different story. Flatpak installs keep them in a keyfile under the app sandbox; native installs use dconf. Back up both sides if you care about brushes and UI state: the documents plus the settings key.

~/.var/app/com.github.flxzt.rnote/config/glib-2.0/settings/keyfile
Flatpak settings keyfile. Native packages use dconf under /com/github/flxzt/rnote/ instead. Documents (.rnote) live wherever you saved them, not in this folder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I transfer Rnote settings to another machine?
Copy that keyfile to the same relative path on the new machine (Flatpak) or use dconf dump and load for native installs. Your .rnote documents are separate files; move those yourself.
Are my notes stored inside the Flatpak sandbox?
No. Rnote saves in its own .rnote format plus export to PDF, SVG, or XOPP. Grant the Flatpak access to your folders with Flatseal if drag and drop or file pickers show odd /run paths.
