Where Does YARG Store Custom Songs?
Where YARG keeps custom songs, setlists, and cache next to its install folder, and how to add folders.
Last updated
YARG does not use a fixed Documents path for songs. It scans a Songs folder next to where you installed the game through the YARC Launcher, plus any extra folders you add in the Song Folder Manager. Setlists and cache sit beside Songs in the same install.
That flexibility confuses people coming from Clone Hero. The install folder you picked during setup is the anchor. Official setlists download through the launcher into the same area, so prefer the launcher over hand-copying when you can.
Where YARG stores this, by platform
[YARG-Install-Folder]\Songs\
Custom charts go here (each song in its own folder with chart, audio, song.ini). Add the folder in-game via Settings, Open Song Folder Manager. Install path varies; check the launcher.
[YARG-Install-Folder]/Songs/
Same layout as Windows. Install folder chosen during setup via the YARC Launcher. AppImage users: the path is wherever you pointed the launcher, not inside the AppImage.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a custom song folder in YARG?
Open Settings, then Open Song Folder Manager, then Add Folder and Browse to your chart folder. Add one slot per song folder and hit Refresh All Caches. This beats guessing where the install put things.
How should a custom song folder be structured?
Each song folder needs its chart (notes.chart or .mid), audio, and song.ini together at the folder top level. Do not nest the files one folder deeper; YARG will miss them. Keep names short so the library stays readable.
